June Music Reviews
albums from Tristana Ward, Tracey Singer & Julie K
Dreamland, Sweet ‘n’ Treats & A Sunny Day I met Tristana Ward at a Peter Himmelman concert at McCabes Guitar Shop in Santa Monica. Her son was inventing new dance moves that made us laugh. She recognized me from photographs on the wall of her local Post Office. Tracey and Julie K’s CDs showed up in the mail like a breath of fresh air…I use this phrase again in Julie’s review but who’s counting?
Dreamland –Songs for Sleepyheads Big and Small, Tristana Ward, Mudflap Records; 2009; $15 CD; www.tristanaward.com.
“Tristana Ward’s lovely and soothing vocals float effortlessly above and around these ten beautifully produced and orchestrated classic and traditional lullabies. I fell asleep ten times trying to finish this review so I know firsthand that this album works – see you in Dreamland.” John Wood, Kidzmusic.com
Sweets ‘n’ Treats, Tracey Singer, MR CAL Records; 2009; $14.99 CD; www.traceysinger.com.
“A rousing baker’s dozen of freshly baked original tunes from Tracey Singer (like…the singer) who has a keen kid’s eye perspective, sound songwriting skills, and a bunch of good musicians that make this solid collection a winner!” John Wood, Kidzmusic.com
A Sunny Day, Julie K, Julie K Music, 2009; $13.98 CD; www.juliekmusic.com.
“Say hey to Julie K, a newcomer on the scene, who hits the musical beach with a blast of fresh air and a batch of upbeat original songs that will put a hop in your step and a song in your heart. Solid, engaging vocals are the hallmark of this Sunny Day.” John Wood, Kidzmusic.com
