Shana Banana Smith integrates a unique combination of academic, musical, and early childhood education experiences to create the music, subject materials, and spirit that is Shana Banana!

What do you do with a Master’s degree in oceanography and a career in blues singing?  Become a national children’s entertainer, of course!  After exploring exotic ports of call on a marine research vessel and paying the bills as an adult singer/songwriter and blues singer, Shana decided to take a leap of faith and explore her talents in singing and composing music especially for kids.  Her mother’s preschool is one of the great resources which helped her develop her incredible joy of writing songs for children.  Over the years, Shana Banana’s talent and reputation have earned her a rightful place among today’s top children’s entertainers.

 Performing at major theatres, festivals, The White House and other prestigious venues across the country, Shana Banana has earned many awards along the way, including Parents’ Choice, iParenting, NAPPA, Kids’ First (Coalition for Quality Children’s Media), two first-round Grammy nominations, “Family and Children’s Campus Entertainer of the Year” nominations, and Just Plain Folks Awards “2003 Best National Children’s Song.”

 Shana Banana continues to develop a variety of live shows, study guides, workshops, CD’s, and videos, and is now in pre-production for her first television series.  As the mother of an energetic toddler, she is committed to making a difference in children’s lives, with a mission to respect and motivate kids, celebrate their uniquenesses, and honor their potential to do great good in the world.
